Find out what the developers did last month, why they did it, and how it will affect you in this roundup of November's notable Patch Notes.
Patch List #216
API Key Management
Torn's API Key Management system has been improved to allow players to hold multiple API keys at the same time. API stands for Application Programming Interface. Each player's API key is unique to them, and they can be used to provide external browser extensions and applications with a limited amount of data regarding your account.
Examples of applications that use API keys are TornTools, DoctorN, YATA, Torn Stats, and Torn PDA. When you provide your API key to an external application, you are granting it and its creator the ability to see and process information regarding your gameplay in return for statistical analysis, shortcuts, alerts etc.
Previously, players were assigned just one API key per account, with this key being used across all applications. In this patch, we have given players the ability to hold ten API keys, with each one customisable with four levels of access; Public Only, Minimal Access, Limited Access, and Full Access.
We've also added in the ability for developers to create key creation URLs which allow their users to create an API key with the exact requirements necessary to run their application. API keys can be created via API Keys tab on the preferences panel. More information can be found in the API Documentation.
50,000 Chains
Factions now have the ability to unlock and perform 50,000 chains. To unlock 50,000 chains, factions must first perform a 25,000 chain and then spend 105,027 respect. The respect provided by a 50,000 chain 20,480, and their cooldown is 3 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes. Dystopia was the first faction to successfully complete an official 50,000 chain.
Racing Skill
The Racing Skill stat, formerly known as Driver Skill, has been made public via each player's personal stats page. Racing Skill is gained by taking part in races at the Race Track, with the amount of skill provided by a race based upon track length, finishing position, passive benefits, and whether or not the race is custom or official.
The decision to make racing skill public was based upon several factors. First, racing skill was the only one of the three skills to remain hidden, with hunting and revive skill already present. It was also determined that racing skill could be reasonably estimated based on a player's race history, making its hidden status somewhat redundant. Furthermore, official competitions such as the URT and some player-run events require players to reveal their Racing Skill in order to participate.
Finally, a poll in the Racing forums conclusively demonstrated an overwhelming amount of support for making Racing Skill visible. A player's Racing Skill can now be seen under the Racing section of their personal stats page.

Patch List #217
Bookie Limit
Players may now bet up to $100m per sporting fixture at the Bookies. A limit of $10m per match was initially imposed while the development team analysed the performance of Bookies 2.0 after its initial rollout. The team was satisfied that Bookies 2.0 was in good shape, hence the increase in the amount you can bet. This value may be increased again in future.
Events Icon
A small change has been made to help players keep track of what's going on while they are flying. During a flight, players have access to just three areas of Torn via links in the top right corner; Events, Laptop, and Recruit Citizens. Each of these links appears in grey, but we have now added green flair to the Events link when players have new events.

Patch List #218
Weapon Changes
The values of several weapons were altered in light of a few issues which came to light after October's damage bonus revamp.
A report by ttyper revealed that the Damage Over Time (DOT) created by burning weapons such as the Flamethrower and Molotov Cocktail was considerably less than stated by the tooltip - around 3% instead of the advertised 15%. This discrepancy was caused by oversight and was remedied by increasing the severe burning DOT damage of the aforementioned items to 100% + 90% over 3 turns.
A similar issue was discovered with the poison DOT damage caused by the Blowgun. Blowguns have now had their poison DOT damage increased to 100% + 950% over 19 turns.
The Bread Knife obtained by looting the NPC Jimmy has had its base damage increased from 19 to 41. This increase means that the Laceration effect will now have a much larger impact on your attacks.
Patch List #219
Back To Profile
If you visit a company or faction page via a link on a player's profile, you will now be able to return to said player's page by clicking a "Back To" link in the top right corner.

Black Friday
The Black Friday event has now been made an official part of the Torn calendar. Black Friday will return each year on the first Friday after the American holiday of Thanksgiving. In most years, this will be the final Friday of November, with the exceptions being when Thanksgiving lands on Thursday the 22nd or 23rd, as will happen in 2029 and 2028 respectively.

Patch List #220
Chain Scaling Bonuses
Chain Scale bonuses are multipliers applied to the respect value of each hit once the 10th hit in a chain has been performed. The bonus value ranges from 1x through to 2x but progresses very slowly through this range over the course of a chain. It was previously the case that these bonuses were also applied during chain cooldowns, but this extra bonus has now been removed.
The reason we had to make this change was that factions would be able to have large chains just before ranked wars and then fight under the influence of a significant scaling bonus. It is preferred that Ranked Wars be ringfenced in a way and that their outcome should be determined more by what goes on during the fight than any events beforehand.
Chain Reports
Chain Reports for completed chains presently in cooldown can now be accessed via the blue chain boxes on a faction's profile. Chain Reports, such as this one from 39th X's recent fastest 50,000 chain, display a range of interesting information, including a chain's duration, the respect gained, and which players contributed the most.
Chain Cooldown
One final change regarding chains was made to the duration of chain cooldowns. Chain cooldowns typically last for 10 seconds per hit once the chain has been completed. This duration has now been reduced to 6 seconds per hit.

DOT Effects
Damage Over Time, also known as DOT Effects, refers to the ability of certain weapons to damage a player during a fight for several turns after the initial hit has been made. It was previously the case that DOT Effects could not be used to defeat an opponent, as they were only capable of bringing someone down to a minimum of 1 life. This has now been changed, meaning that DOT effects can sometimes be the finishing hit on an opponent, even if the attacker uses that turn to reload.

Torn's API Key Management system has been improved to allow players to hold multiple API keys at the same time. API stands for Application Programming Interface.
