Find out who won big in 2021's Christmas Community Events and auctions!
After much deliberation, the Christmas Community Event winners have finally been chosen. We ran five creative contests over the holidays, alongside several auctions and a Lucky Dip event. Read on to find out who won the top prizes, what they did to deserve it, and who you can complain to if you think we got it wrong.
CHRISTMAS WRAPPING
First up we have the results of our Christmas Wrapping contest, a brand new event created especially for 2021! Players were asked to write and perform a rap about Torn while also wrapping a present. We were genuinely impressed by the quality of the entries sent into this competition, and for that reason, we were forced to choose two players each for joint second and third.

Daedalus snagged joint-third thanks to their witty lyrics about Christmas Town and the Community Event judges' apparent aversion to rap. Orko also came in joint-third, with their entry displaying clean rapping technique and a genuine Christmassy feel. Orko also referenced the Torn judges' reported hatred of rap in good humor, and we would like to state for the record once more that we do not hate rap, just people who enter it into every god damn competition.
In joint-second we have entries by mgvel and a joint-joint effort performed by Sam420 and Wastedyouth. Mgvel's rap was nicely edited, cleanly performed, and was always going to place highly considering it had DJ scratches and a weird dancing Santa. Alongside them in second, Sam420 and Wastedyouth took a smart approach to the contest by entering as a duo, allowing one player to concentrate on wrapping and another on rapping. The following lyric was a particular highlight:
"I got a call from Chedburn, he got a really bad leg burn."
The overall winner of the Christmas Wrapping event was Heasleys4hemp. His performance was described by one judge as “a brandy buttery smooth Christmas rap”, and his lyrics were outstanding too. In fact, we enjoyed one particular line so much we included the following screenshot in this quarter's newsletter. Congratulations Heasley, your desires are now immortalised in everyone's inbox.

CHRISTMAS MEMES
The Christmas Meme contest was a bit disappointing this year, with many of your entries deemed neither dank nor fresh enough to please the judges. Whitty took third place in this event after the original second-place player was disqualified for entering eight memes instead of three. Nevertheless, Whitty's gif-based entry deserved its spot as it riffs off the sheer futility of trying to take part in Duke's Dump Giveaway.

Second place originally went to Zwel, but because they either can't count or can't read, Ragtag_Slyboots was bumped up to second. Their entry referenced Christmas Town and used a fresh format from 2021, but the judges also enjoyed Ragtag's Typocalypse and Gold Key memes, either of which could've been chosen for the top three too.

The winning meme was created by Mad_Ninja, whose use of the DW template referenced the bizarre choice made by many players to continue playing loot runs during this year's Christmas Town, despite the fact that wenerfed the f**k out of them boosted the good maps.

CHRISTMAS CARD
Next up is our Christmas Card competition, an event which is always hard to judge due to the high standard of the entries. Players were asked to create a Christmas card design themed around some of the events that took place in Torn over the past twelve months, and once more, we had to give a joint-third place to multiple people due to the high standard of entries.
Briggl94 was one of these players, with their charming entry packed full of references to the year's most important events, and Dude quitting.

MrClaws was also awarded third by the judges, who enjoyed the artist's distinctive drawing style - despite the fact that he made Fernando look like angry Russell Brand.

Second-placed Muddbaal is no stranger to art-based events, having placed in the top three on several occasions in the past. But few could argue that he deserves to place again this year, with this festive depiction of Duke and his mother enough to whack off almost all of the competition.

In the end, it was Mysteria who took home first place thanks to her entry directed towards Monarch. As a member of SA One Punch, Mysteria could be forgiven for having malice towards the butterfly brigade, but this card proves that the year's faction activities are all water under the bridge, with OP seemingly promising to gift their foes a Dirty Bomb. What a disappointment for the scum squad, who seem to get the same present every year.

CHRISTMAS DRESSUP
This year's Christmas Dressup contest asked players to wear something weird or fancy while setting themselves in an interesting scene. Many of you clearly couldn't be bothered with the second part, but those who went the extra mile were rewarded handsomely, with four players chosen to fill our top three. First up is Arska, who came in third simply by wearing a weird homemade mask and standing outside with weaponry.

Second place went to Hasenpfeffer, who posted multiple entries in the same outfit but in different stages of emotion; bald, angry, and drunk. We enjoyed Hasenpfeffer's final entry the most because he resembles all of us at about 5pm on Christmas Day.

This contest was won jointly by Sugarcube and Carp. Sugarcube braved the cold by staging some kind of gothic tea party outside in the snow while dressed as lady Santa. I don't know who took this photo, but Sugarcube's expression communicates one clear desire above all else: "Hurry the f**k up and take the god damn picture."

Carp also won by staging an indoor scene of himself being brutally assaulted by some kind of big dog, or maybe it's a bear I don't know. Either way, the extra effort Carp made to create this terrifying tableau helped him place higher than if he'd just posed in an elf outfit with his finger seductively lingering in the corner of his mouth.

I'd also like to add a special mention to SmokeyMcpot312, who tried to enter this contest using a picture they found on a famous porn website. We know this because we reverse image searched the photo when we realised they'd used the photoshop spray tool to write their name on the lady's arse. It should go without saying, but please don't enter pornography into our community events. Just inbox bogie the link instead.
CHRISTMAS BAKING
Our final community event was the Christmas Baking contest, an event which is often so riddled with photos of disgusting mess it puts bling_bling's secret hard drive to shame. Third place went to Blarghzilla for their bright and colourful gingerbread house. Great minds have often pondered the puzzling situation of a gingerbread man sitting in a gingerbread house. Is the house made of flesh, or the man made of house? Blarghzilla's entry did nothing to answer this question, but it was neat and pretty.

In second place was Kittenaround, whose beautifully decorated chocolate cake was one of the only things in this contest we genuinely wanted to eat. I mean sure, she admits that the cake itself was created from a packet of Betty Crocker cake mix, but could you make white chocolate trees and piped frosting as nice as her? If the answer is yes, why didn't you do it then, you berk?

The winner of the baking competition was RiceWilly, who made a Christmas dinner snowglobe cake in the shape of a turkey. The inside of the cake also looks nice and moist, but it was the full, uncut version complete with roast potatoes and sprouts that got him over the line. Congratulations RiceWilly, you're Torn's very own Heston Blumenthal.

AUCTIONS AND LUCKY DIP
Our draw for the Christmas Lucky Dip is still being made, but the results of this event should be finalized within a few days, and we'll update this article with the big ticket winners when they've been checked. What we do have are the results of our Christmas auctions, with two players in particular enjoying a rather expensive Christmas.
Pokey477 secured Duke's Warpaint Kit for the princely sum of $1.4 billion, and later went on to win Leslie's auction for Santa's Elf '09 with a winning bid of $455 million. Another dual winner was Nuclear, whose grandmother must've died recently, as he shelled out $5.4 billion on Duke's Gold Laptop and another $13 billion on Leslie's Sports Sneakers. Leslie's only other item was a Santa's List '17, which was won by Wendy with a bid of $403 million.
Duke's final item was a Donald Trump mask bought by ShuKa for a whopping $1.5 billion dollars. There are only 60 of these masks available in Torn City, which goes some way to explaining why ShuKa paid so much for this wearable visage of the former President. Although I still think he's been ripped off here, as you can buy a Sandworm Mask for much less if you want to wear a gaping a**hole on your face.
