Billion-dollar racing tournament returns with January qualifiers. Bugatti Veyron on offer for the champion. Volunteer steward applications now open.
Torn's Ultimate Racing Tournament returns with its Winter Rally edition this month, and once more we are asking for your help to run it!
Beginning on Saturday the 22nd of January, the URT Winter Rally sees 48 drivers compete once a day for over two weeks, taking in each of Torn's sixteen unique race tracks in a fast and furious fight to see who will be crowned champion and take home one billion dollars and a Bugatti Veyron. Prizes ranging between tens and hundreds of millions of dollars will be paid out to each of the remaining drivers too, with the total prize pool for 2022 set to exceed $10 billion.
The last race of the Winter Rally sees our 48 drivers meet up at Stone Park on Sunday the 6th of February, with the final race weekend set to host a number of public prize races and the Weekend Road Trip double xp event too. But before we get there we need to find out who our 48 tournament drivers are. And to do that, the qualification phase must begin.
The Qualifiers
The URT will run four days of qualifiers from the 14th to the 17th of January, with each day having at least one race per hour - often a lot more - organised by our team of dedicated race stewards. URT qualifiers run for 10 laps each, and in order to make it through to the main stage of the tournament, players must have recorded one of the twelve fastest times of the day when the final qualifier has been run at 23:00 TCT.
Each qualifying race will be posted in the Custom Events tab of the Race Track page and marked using gold flair. The races will open roughly one hour before their advertised start time, host 100 drivers (including the steward), and will have no password or entry fee. You don't need to do anything special to join a qualifier, you simply need to visit the Race Track and enter one if there are spots remaining.
The track we use will change for each day of the qualifying period. Here is the qualifying schedule as it stands at present:
Friday 14th January - Uptown
Saturday 15th January - Hammerhead
Sunday 16th January - Industrial
Monday 17th January - Mudpit
Further details on the qualification phase and main tournament schedule will be released closer to the time. But before we know how many qualifiers we are able to host, we must first see what kind of response we get to our URT steward callout!
URT Stewards
URT stewards have been the backbone of this tournament ever since it began several years ago. The basic role of a steward is to set up a custom race at a specific time according to the instructions given, but many of our volunteers go above and beyond this by posting results, updating qualifying tables, and answering questions posed by the participants.
All of this is very much appreciated by both myself and the racers, but the primary task a URT steward must complete is the timely and precise setup of their scheduled race. Stewards are paid out in Donator Packs for their service, but since almost all of our volunteers are racing fans too, the most valuable reward is the fact that you are guaranteed a spot in all of the qualifiers you run.
To make the qualification process fair, we try to run at least one race during every hour of the day, with double or triple races run at the most popular times. This means that players from all timezones are encouraged to apply as a steward, as with your help we can ensure that entry to the URT is available to everyone across the globe.
There are no qualification restrictions for stewards - they are allowed to qualify for the URT just like everyone else - so if you are interested in running one or more races during our four qualifying days, please let me know your availability on the URT Steward thread and include the following information in your post:
