Find out who won March's $100m comic prize, and what you need to do to be in with a chance of winning in April and May!
EarthFireMonkey is the winner of the Economist's Comic Prize this month. Their strip entertained Lt_Wolf by accurately depicting the community's utter indifference towards TiredSaladLego's sextuple dirty bomb strike back in March.

EarthFireMonkey takes home $100m in prize money for their winning effort, and a further five players have been deemed worthy of the $10m runner-up prize. Lt_Wolf was pleased by the quantity and quality of the comics that were sent in during March, and also wanted to give a special mention to one of the comic page's most consistent contributors.

"I found these ones quite humorous, so keep that going I guess! And a special shout-out to slockins101, a consistent contributor of high-quality comics."

Unfortunately, being mentioned by Lt_Wolf doesn't increase the amount of runner-up prize money Slockins101 will receive, but he does have two entries in this month's selection. Here are the comics that were judged to be exactly 10x less good than the winner:

You still have just over a week to submit a comic for consideration for April's prize, but this month should prove difficult to judge for Lt_Wolf, as we've had a higher number of quality comics than usual. Here are a few tips as to what you should and shouldn't submit to our comic pages in the short term:

  • Easter-themed comics are still acceptable until the end of April. Any sent in after the 30th will be saved for next year.
  • Museum Day and Dog Tags are coming up in the next few weeks. Entries themed around these events stand a good chance of being published.
  • We've received a lot of two-panel comics lately. These are fine, so long as the two panels are both of a decent standard. If only one panel is good, or they're both quite similar in layout, it'll have to be a damn strong panel to make it through.
  • Don't forget that some of Torn's new features also make for fertile ground when deciding on a comic topic. War Mode, improved matchmaking criteria, and the new injury cache could all be used as a starting point.
  • Hand-drawn comics are judged less harshly than digital pieces, but there is a limit to our generosity. A quick pencil sketch of some stick figures would have to be neat as a pin and make us laugh our asses off to be considered for publication.
  • Comic gifs are fun. I don't receive these often. Please send me more, like this one by Satn-Sama.
