Of All The Nerve!

Triple nerve event begins at noon on the 19th. Overdose chances quintupled for 48 hours. Weed prices remain stable after failed manipulation attempt.
Torn's 48-hour Cannabis event begins today at noon TCT, with the effects of weed tripled and your chances of overdosing on the drug increased greatly until noon on the 21st of April.

Cannabis typically provides a boost of 2-3 nerve when taken, along with a slight increase in crime success rate - because everyone knows great decisions are made when high. The downsides to taking weed include reductions of between 20% and 35% to Strength, Defense, and Speed, along with a cooldown of 60-90 minutes, and 2 points towards your addiction status.

During the 4-20 event, the only positive aspect of Cannabis that is affected by a bonus is its provision of nerve, which is raised to between 6 and 9 each time you take it. The drug's battle stat debuffs, cooldown, and addiction contribution remain unchanged. However, your chances of overdosing on Cannabis are quintupled during 4-20, rising from a 1 in 2,500 chance to 1 in 500.

Spaced Out

Cannabis is the most difficult drug on which to overdose, hence why there is a special award for it. The Spaced Out award is one of the rarest in Torn City, with just 1,110 people having achieved it at the time of whiting writing - it is the 555th least common award out of the 593 available.

Some players can get lucky with the Cannabis OD, as proven last year when Prencess managed to space out on her very first use of Cannabis - this was also the first time she'd ever taken any drugs whatsoever. Overdosing on Cannabis will land you in the hospital for over five hours, and will also give you a cooldown of 3-5 hours, so make sure you're not doing anything important while you're toking this week just in case you are blessed by the OD fairy.

Go Green

If you do manage to get through the 4-20 event without overdosing, then you'll be joined by thousands of others happily munching their way through the devil's lettuce to gain that extra nerve. But as is always the case in Torn City, there will be some trying to make a quick buck out of those who are yet to secure their hash supply.

The first iteration of Cannabis Day back in 2018 saw a then-record 7,884 Cannabis items used during the 24-hour event. All 24-hour events were upgraded to 48 hours in 2019, and that year saw the one-day consumption record more than double to 21,880. This total was increased further to 26,395 in April 2020, and topped once more in 2021, with 35,584 Cannabis items being used in just one day.

Some item market sellers, such as FIDEL-CASTRO, like to celebrate 4-20 by pricing thousands of Cannabis items at just $420. He sold nearly 50,000 Cannabis last year and is once more planning to drop a huge amount of cheap weed onto the market this year, with his sale beginning at 21:20 TCT on the 20th of April.

However, as we revealed in March's Market Report, one player is hoping to spoil the party by artificially inflating the price of Cannabis before the event begins. Kromb told the Torn City Times that they planned to spend $2 billion on Cannabis in an effort to price gouge stoners who are yet to buy up their weed stocks.

"Some may not remember me although a few recognize the name. Well unfortunately my plans for 04/20/2020 were foiled by a man with the name of Fidel. This Year I will succeed I am in the works of something even bigger than stated in the article published on 04/13//20. I want to drop $2B in that way the prices will skyrocket followed by it crashing as bad as Vicodin did a few years ago." - Kromb

But Kromb's meagre investment of $2 billion surely won't be enough to affect the price of weed that much. Even if he bought Cannabis back in December at a price of $6k, his two billion dollar fund would only stretch as far as 333,000 Cannabis items. The circulation for Cannabis is currently over 4.5 million, and while he could potentially inflate prices to some extent with this volume, he would still be some way from being able to manipulate the entire market.

Cannabis is priced at $8.8k today, whereas it was valued at $9.6k at the same time last year. 2021's maximum price was $10,696, with the peak value dropping year on year as supplies of the drug continue to increase. We see no reason why the same trend won't continue this year, and prices are actually falling at the time of writing!

So if you are a little short of weed during 4-20, don't worry, because between FIDEL-CASTRO and the rest of the market, there should be plenty of cheap green to go around.

tl;dr: Cannabis will provide 3x nerve and 5x overdose chance from 12:00 TCT on the 19th through to 12:00 TCT on the 21st.
