Find out why this year's Easter Egg Hunt will be the last of its kind, why exchanging eggs isn't always worth it, and how many eggs you'll likely need to gain the maximum amount of competition tokens!
Torn's annual Easter Egg Hunt gets underway at noon today, meaning you will soon have three weeks to find as many eggs as you can across Torn City before the event ends at noon on the 25th of April. And you might want to make a very special effort this year because the 2022 edition of the Easter Egg Hunt will be the last ever!

Find Egg
There are ten collectible eggs in total, each of which can appear on any page on the Torn website. If you see what looks like an egg on your screen, don't panic, because it won't disappear unless you navigate away from the page. But if you have accidentally clicked on a link and left the page you were on, there's no point going back because that egg is now lost forever.

Clicking on a coloured egg will do two things. First, that egg will be sent to your inventory, where it can be consumed for a happy boost or saved to grow your collection. Second, depending on the type of egg you've clicked, you will receive an immediate bonus, ranging from extra crime experience from the black egg (racist), through to 100 work stat points from the brown egg (because work is s**t I guess).
Last year, I attempted to cater towards the players who use screen readers by listing the effects of each egg in text. I will do that again now, even though I've since realised that hunting for coloured eggs on a website is very much a test of your visual abilities, thus rendering my previous attempts at being helpful absolutely pointless.
Blue Egg - $100,000

For everyone else, some eggs will be harder to find than others depending on your setup. If you're using Torn's regular grey theme, white eggs can prove difficult to spot against the light background. Likewise, when in dark mode, black eggs are often hard to notice. If you're short of one or the other, switch to a different mode to help you in your quest for eggscelence.
Use Egg
Once you've acquired an Easter Egg, you may consume them to satisfy your happiness bar and your greedy little tummy. Each of the collectible eggs provides 50 happiness when eaten, but this will increase your booster cooldown by 30 minutes. The only egg that provides more than 50 happiness is the Gold Egg, which provides 250 happiness and is paid out when you exchange a full set of eggs over at the Competition Page.
In addition to the Gold Easter Egg, exchanging a set of eggs for the first time will gain you 20 points and the Good Friday honor bar. Subsequent exchanges will gain you the exact same rewards minus the honor bar, but you may find it more profitable to sell your eggs individually on the item market depending on their prices at the time.

On April 4th, the total cost for a full set of 10 eggs was roughly $3.8m, with the most expensive being Purples ($1.3m), Whites ($1m), and Browns ($270k). Some of these eggs are still rising in price, whereas others are falling, so you'll need to think carefully before you go buying up eggs to complete your set. The price of eggs tends to fall dramatically once the Easter hunt has begun, so it may be better to wait until the end of the competition to fill out your collection.
Gold Eggs are priced at $1.3m at the time of writing, and the value of the 20 points paid out for a full set is $927k, giving us a total reward of $2.2m. This is obviously much lower than the current market value of a full set, so your best bet is to simply hunt for eggs until your eyes bleed. You could also get more for your points if you hold onto them until mid-may. The pre-Museum Day shortage might see point prices go as high as $49k, but for 20 points, this still only represents about a $70k increase in what you'd get today.
But whatever you do, don't go holding onto your eggs in the hope of exchanging or selling them next year, because that won't be possible.
Convert Egg
Torn's Easter Egg Hunt will undergo a slight revamp before it returns in 2023, with new, untradeable eggs being introduced from 2023. These eggs will not provide a bonus when found, but instead will provide a bonus when used, allowing players to build up a powerful cache of buffs and perks to deploy as and when you please.
This will therefore be the last year that the Easter Eggs in your current collection can be traded in for the honor bar, sold on the item market, or traded. To facilitate this change, all existing Easter Eggs (including Gold) will be turned into a generic Chocolate Egg item at some point between now and next Easter. The Chocolate Egg will be a basic candy item that provides an as-yet-unspecified amount of happiness.
Torn will give fair warning to egg-holders before this change takes place, but if you have a s**tload of eggs in your inventory right now, we would advise you to use or sell them during this year's event. The honor bar and rewards will still be available in exchange for Easter Eggs next year, but you will no longer be able to use purchased eggs to supplement your collection.
I can confirm that we will not convert any eggs before November’s Diabetes Day to allow players to use the 250 happiness Gold Eggs under the effect of the triple boost to candy effects.
Praise Egg
Whatever you decide to do with your eggs this year, every egg you click on willsave the life of a starving Welsh child contribute to your overall egg total - purchased eggs will not, and never have done. The number of eggs you collect between the 5th and 25th of April will determine how many competition tokens you receive at the end. The top 10% of egg collectors will receive 10 competition tokens, with the next 10% receiving 9, and so on and so forth.
In 2021, you needed to collect 11 eggs to make it into the top 10%, whereas in 2020 the figure was 13. How many eggs you'll need to beat the cutoff this year depends entirely on the participation and activity levels of your fellow Torn citizens. 2021 saw a slight drop in participation despite a large increase in the number of Torn citizens. The number of people playing Torn has grown at a more modest rate over the past 12 months, so we're estimating that you will need 10-12 eggs to make it into the top 10% this year.
There is no special prize awarded for being the top egg collector in Torn, except for the honor and prestige that comes with the knowledge that you have clicked more coloured shapes than your opponents. The all-time record was set in 2021 by -Selene-, who found 28 eggs last year, beating the record of 27 set by three players the year prior.

Torn's Easter Community events will be posted later today. We have a bumper prize pool of items available for our talent-based contests, with players asked to record a little rhyme, draw a little desktop background, and make a little food scene in return for some not so little rare items! We're also running another Lucky Dip event for those of you with no talent. All of these competitions are open for entries until Sunday the 24th of April.
