Find out how an animated effort won the Economist's Comic Prize for the first time, who earned a runner-up prize, and what you need to do to be in with a chance of winning this month!
Shootme5dollars has become the first player to win the Economist's Comic Prize with an animated entry. SM5d's amusing cartoon poked fun at the simplicity behind a so-called "ehpik foght", impressing our judge Lt_Wolf with the effort and execution on display. However, Torn's economist was quick to point out that regular comics remain his preference.
"Love the animation on the winner, and the gimmick secured the victory. But animations are not required to win in the future!" - Lt_Wolf

Shootme5dollars will receive $100 million for their animated comic, with Lt_Wolf deeming a further five people worthy of the $10 million runner-up prize. April's comic entries were of a particularly high standard, and judging by the strips we've received in May, this welcome trend looks set to continue. Here are the five comics Lt_Wolf deemed the best of the rest last month.

This month's comic submission tips:
- With Dog Tags having been postponed until June, you still have plenty of time to send in your DT-themed strips. Any tag-based comics sent in already will be held back for next month, but feel free to send in artwork that makes fun of the delay - we've already had one excellent piece come in.
- June also marks Blood Donor Day, and beyond that we have World Population Day, Mr and Ms Torn, and World Tiger Day coming up in July. Alternatively, feel free to riff on the effects of past events, such as the point price drop caused by Museum Day, or the introduction of new features like War Mode.
- We have received a lot of one-panel comics over the past month, despite my previous warning that these have to be of a high level to make it through. Slockins101's runner-up effort from this month's selection is a good example of a one-panel comic that works.
- A comic that relies mostly on screenshots is rarely going to make it in, however funny the idea is. Even a traced comic is better than one comprised solely of stock images or screengrabs.
- If your comic is declined and you'd like feedback, please make sure you send me a link to your comic in your message, or at the very least keep it in your image gallery. I may or may not remember why your comic specifically sucked without a point of reference.
