Dog Tags 2022 to begin on the 20th of June. New rules clarified and updated. Public leaderboard to be introduced.
Last week, Patch List #242 confirmed that the rescheduled Dog Tags Tournament will now take place from the 20th to the 29th of June. However, in the aforementioned announcement, Chedburn also stated that additional changes would be made to the event's format. The Torn City Times can now exclusively reveal the details of these amendments to Dog Tags 2022.

Steal Tag Is No More!

To gain tags under the original format of Dog Tags 2.0, players would have had to choose a fourth option, Steal Tag, when ending a fight. This option would have guaranteed a tag upon defeating an opponent, whereas hospitalising, mugging, or leaving someone on the street would provide zero tags.

The Steal Tag option has now been removed. All three of the existing options to end a fight will result in a tag being received. Players are now guaranteed to receive a tag if their opponent has at least one available when they are defeated.

Best 10 Tags

To incentivise players to attack a broad range of targets, you will now receive one of your defeated opponent's 10 best tags if you have not attacked them recently. These players will be marked with a green theme on their profile if you have not attacked them within the past six hours.

If you defeat a player who you have previously attacked within six hours, you will receive the worst tag in their collection. We hope this change will discourage griefing and allow for a more entertaining and open competition.

Personal Tag Lock

Your personal tag now cannot be stolen until you have made three attacks in the competition. This rule has been introduced to prevent players from farming all of the top tags within the first few minutes of the event, while also ensuring that those who aren't online when Dog Tags begins are not unduly punished through the immediate loss of their own tag.

The only players whose tag will not be locked at the start of the competition are those who have been inactive for two weeks prior to the start of the event. Your own personal tag will still provide 2x its value to you, as per the updates announced in May.

Please note that your personal tag will not appear within your collection until you have made three attacks, at which point the chains will be removed from the graphic in the Your Dog Tag panel, and your tag will appear in your collection as usual. If your tag is stolen, this panel will tell you which player has it at present.

Returned Tag Lock

Returned Tags will be locked within a player's collection until the owner has made three attacks. Please note that this system counts attacks made after the tag has been returned, not during the tournament as a whole. So if a player decides to return my own tag to me, I must then make three more attacks after this point to make it available to others upon my defeat.

We believe that this change will make it much harder for players to buy and sell tags, thus leading to a more meritocratic leaderboard.

The Leaderboard

A top 25 leaderboard will now be displayed throughout the Dog Tag Tournament on the competition page. This leaderboard, much like the Easy Pickings and Your Superiors panels, will be updated on an hourly basis.
