Investing in New Players

Actuariolam [1967959] — Should Torn's veterans be doing more to help new players for the betterment of Torn, or is such charity a pointless waste of time? Greetings, Torn citizens! This is your friendly neighborhood philanthropist here attempting to promote a cause that many of you find worthless, futile and the folly of a bleeding-heart chump: The support of n00bs. I know that many of us have been habituated since birth to have a natural contempt towards n00bs of any kind - be they new players in a game or real-life incompetents. Condescension towards n00bs has not only become an expected attitude, but also a cultural norm. Pictured: Cultural conditioning N00bs are disdained because of their attitude and play-style, classically characterized as having a sense of entitlement and a tendency towards begging, whining and rage-quitting. If they can't achieve success from the moment they start, the game is deemed unfair. Truly a despicable specimen. But not all newcomers are like...

The Return of the Torn Crossword

ArttiIsGod [1954421] — ArttiIsGod's brain-squelching puzzle column returns...but for how long? Ladies and gentlemen, you can stop crying for I have returned to bring you the results of our previous crossword, as well as a brand new puzzle to tide you over until my next appearance on these pages. Where have I been? Let's just say it is not much fun being handcuffed to a radiator in a Laotian man's basement. I can reveal no more. First of all, let's have a little gander at our previous crossword, which was something of a beast let me tell you. The answer to the puzzle as revealed by the letters in the numbered squares was "Hey Joe, where you going with that gun of yours, tell me." However, several eagle-eyed readers pointed out that the word "you" was misspelt as "yuu" since the clue in square 71 was located on the U of "Spaced out" and not the O.  So what's the deal here? Were we trying to catch out people who have been fill...

Lindy Lyson Claims Maiden URT Crown

sugarvalves [1963573] — 100% record sees Torn veteran secure championships, Bugatti and $1billion with sixth straight victory. Tyrion finishes second ahead of former PRC champion Stormcast. Lindy_Lyson has won the inaugural Ultimate Racing Championships after a stunning performance at Stone Park helped her see off the likes of Tyrion and Stormcast  to clinch victory in the final. A Torn player of some thirteen years, this was a well-deserved victory for old-timer Lindy, who has won every single race she has participated in during the tournament proper. Lindy's form in the group stage meant her participation in the final was almost assured, yet for former PRC champion Stormcast this was something he could only have dreamt of last week, as with just one group race remaining he faced a huge fight to make it through to the knockout rounds. This time last week  Mafia was already qualified on seven points with Baldr in second on sixth, and it seemed the Bugatti in Storm...

What's Up With All These Level 1's?

Josephine [1923258] — In a followup to the November article on level holders, we explore the bizarre playstyle which leads players to shun fame, favour and fortune in exchange for fun. Level 1. The place where we all started. Few would choose to stay there, aside from the hundreds of players who registered and never played, stuck as measly level 1's for all eternity, clogging up the level Hall of Fame like an endless plague begging for the sweet release of death. But as is the case with all levels, some do choose, for one reason or another, to remain on the bottom rung of the Torn ladder.  These people have chosen to give up every upgrade, every bit of extra life, every chance to join a company or travel to other countries. And for what? Let us briefly put aside the debate as to whether these players have been stupid in their choice to never level up. Instead, I want to find out what these players get out of this situation. What is their status within the game? What have they ac...

Legendary Racers Miss Out on URT

sugarvalves [1963573] — Dunmugmeh, Guy_Smiley and Broly fail to qualify for high profile tournament. Group stages prove tighter than expected as final round looms large. The World Cup may be distracting the rest of the planet right now, but in Torn City, there's only one competition anyone gives a single shiny shit about. I am of course talking about the Ultimate Racing Tournament, and so far, it has not disappointed in terms of drama, with several high profile names having failed to make it through to the tournament's group stage. Rogue , aka Roguehomer, was the first driver to qualify courtesy of his victory in Qualifier 1 at Mudpit , as the veteran racer looks to build upon the fourth and sixth-place finishes he achieved in the 2017 PRC Summer and Winter editions. Second place in Qualifier 1 went to Chiubiz , with third secured by Tinzu ahead of experienced drivers Hammer and ChristmasBazaar . The final qualifier was Lord_Gorgen , with the racers placed third to sixth s...
