Valentine's Winners Revealed

sugarvalves [1963573] — The winners of Torn's latest Community Events were posted last week. In case you missed it, here is a quick roundup of who won what and why. Love Juice Commercial Earlier this month the Torn City Times posted a lengthy article on the history of Love Juice. We did this to help refresh everyone's memories in the hope that some of the lore would make it into the entries for the Love Juice Advertisement contest. We were not disappointed. The commercials we received were funny, informative, and well-edited, and this was a tough one to judge. In the end, we gave 4n4rchist first prize for a slick and silly entry which also leaned heavily on the narrator's smooth, sensual voice - and some fun weasel noises too. Second place was given to aedstar for a commercial that we felt accurately represented the aggressive nature of American medical advertisements. Their use of casually dressed young people and jaunty background music also gave their ad that corporate...

For Our Friends In Ukraine

sugarvalves [1963573] — A message of support to our developers and players in Ukraine. As many of you already know, Torn’s development team is almost entirely based in Ukraine. Many of the talented men and women who have helped create Torn City now find their lives, homes, and way of life under threat, and it would be callous in the extreme if we were to let this pass without remark. Torn is of course just a game, and while we may occasionally make glib references to real-life events, it is hardly our place to comment seriously on matters of geopolitical importance. Nevertheless, we are deeply concerned for the safety of our colleagues - our friends - who through no fault of their own find themselves in grave danger from the conflict others have brought to their sovereign nation. "While I've generally been the voice of the development team, these are the people who actually build Torn. Without them, none of us would be here today - their passion and dedication for the game ...

Scamming: Torn's 4th Playstyle?

sugarvalves [1963573] — With vault thefts on the rise, we take a look at what happens to faction scammers when the anger has died down, and ask whether scamming your way to the top is a legitimate way to play Torn City. One of the best things about Torn City is that everyone can choose their own path. And while some are more arduous than others - I’m looking at you, SSL users - each way of playing is respected in its own right. Even the ads for Torn try to direct new players down three specific routes, offering up the chance to play as a Fighter, a Criminal, or an Executive. But recent events have led me to conclude that there is another, unofficial way to play Torn. A path trod only by those brave or stupid enough to embrace chaos. For while many are keen to experience the life of the faction warrior, the business mogul, and the criminal kingpin, only a select few choose to experience the life of the outcast, the pariah, or the villain. Read on, as we look into the history and real...

Economist's Prize Winner Announced

sugarvalves [1963573] — Slockins101 has been chosen as the winner of January's Economist Comic Prize for their Dirty Bomb-themed strip. Slockins101, who contributes regularly to our comic section under their own name and in collaboration with others, receives $100 million for their latest effort. Artist: Slockins101 January's pickings were slim for Lt_Wolf, with only a few pages of comics sent in for his consideration. Out of the few comic strips we received, Torn's economist managed to rustle up four which he felt deserved the runner-up prize of $10 million. Artist: Tatariseta Artist: DarkAnthos Artist: Marric Artist: Kasan Much like last month, February has been a little short on comics, with only four pages of strips accepted so far. But there's still plenty of time for you to send in a piece for consideration for this month's prize, and here are a few tips you may want to consider if you do so. THIS MONTH'S COMIC TIPS Valentine's Day may be over, but t...

V-Day Roundup

sugarvalves [1963573] — Find out who did what this Valentine's Day, including news on Monarch's raid, PT's quintuple chain effort, the end of a record-breaking raid, and the Dirty Bomb that never was. Valentine's Day 2022 was slightly quieter than last year, with 579,836 total attacks made on the 14th compared to 601,905 in 2021. The overall event saw fewer attacks made too, with 2021's total of 1,149,490 outstripping this year's 1,112,261 attacks registered from the 13th to the 15th. Pictured: Attacks made one-year graph. But despite there being fewer attacks, there was still plenty of drama during the Valentine's Day event, with a huge raid, multiple chains, and a conspicuously absent Dirty Bomb dominating the discourse. SA Raided The headline news this Valentine's Day was Monarch HQ's huge raid on Subversive Alliance . This attack began just 27 seconds after the effects of Love Juice kicked in, and damage was still being done to SA at the time ...

Who Is Torn's No.1 Faction?

sugarvalves [1963573] — In the wake of Natural Selection's ranked warring defeat to Monarch HQ, we investigate whether Torn now has a new top-ranked faction, what this really means, and how future changes may help us decide. Was Torn City's number one faction dethroned in the small hours of Monday morning? This is what many people are wondering in the aftermath of an epic Ranked War between Natural Selection and Monarch HQ ended in favour of the latter. The final result saw Monarch HQ reach the required 9,000 target over their opponents in 11 hours, 28 minutes, and 46 seconds. As you can see from the score graph, Monarch dominated for the first five hours, and at one point were just under 1,200 from victory, but an NS fightback prolonged the battle for several hours more until a huge push from Monarch began a two-hour firestorm that would eventually see them declared the winner at 02:28 am. "They showed up with a good game plan and they fought well. We fought well too...
