Travel Changes For Torn Citizens

sugarvalves [1963573] — Regular Torn features now available when visiting foreign nations. Sidebar introduced to all travel destinations. Inactivity duration for hidden status increased to one week. A recent announcement by Chedburn has revealed that restrictions have been lifted on the activities Torn citizens can perform when visiting foreign countries. Prior to this change, Torn citizens were limited to attacking and shopping in foreign destinations. The only exceptions to this were nations with special features, such as Switzerland, South Africa, and the Caymans, where you could enter rehabilitation, hunt animals, or invest money. These activities are still possible, but citizens can now do a few other useful things when travelling abroad. For example, Torn's tourists can now monitor their life, energy, nerve, and happiness bars while abroad, as most elements of the sidebar are now accessible regardless of your location. This may seem like a minor change, but since the degra...

The Spying Game

Hogfather [330973] — Lawyers, give em' an inch and they'll bring a city to it's knees. With the release of Ranked Warring, they've taken that inch and turned it into a country mile. I hear you need a spy? "View another player’s battle stats.” Spies are one of the oldest abilities in the game. Back in Torn's early days, the ability to discover your opponent's battle stats was a really powerful tool. But over much of the past decade, spies have become less of a necessity, as there are few situations where you need to know the precise value of someone's dexterity, defense, strength, and speed. As a result, the demand for stat spies diminished, as did the value of this service. And then Ranked Warring went live, and suddenly, spies were in demand again… Big demand. I, Spy For those who haven't purchased them before, Spies cost 10-15 job points a time, and while they can be performed by 5* TV Network employees for 15 points, most are provided by 3* La...

Word Search 18

Pixie- [2342246] — Solve our word search for a chance to win donator packs - and don't worry, this puzzle is shorter than the last one! So it seems that bigger is not always better - at least when it comes to crosswords. Our previous puzzle published at the end of January was our largest yet, and it appears that many of you were stumped because we only received 16 entries! And yet again, we've had one guy write in to tell us that he fell out with his wife after getting stuck. The Torn City Times bears no responsibility for any divorces caused by our puzzles. Here are some of our favourite comments on January's megacrossword: Lots of devious non-answers on the board in this one! That one was a doozy! Nice job hiding some tricky words in there as red herrings to get me off the trail! Sandal, bow tie, valves… those kept me guessing. It was fun! The clue about the weapon to be released really stumped me... I had to simply find it in the wordsearch without knowing the clue. ...

Six Days. Six Bombs.

sugarvalves [1963573] — Six factions targeted with Dirty Bombs in six days. TiredSaladlego admits responsibility for six attacks and explains their motives. Further bombs suspected. Likely target list leaked to The Times. On March the 12th, TiredSaladlego finally made good on her word and began her much anticipated dirty bombing campaign with a strike against PT-Family. A second Dirty Bomb attack would take place several hours later, with four more detonated over the coming days. TiredSaladlego has accepted responsibility for five of these bombs - her involvement in the sixth is suspected, not yet proven - but as the radioactive dust settles there are still questions to be asked. Why did she target these factions? How did it affect them? Will the victims retaliate? And are there more bombs to come? Larger Link Bomb #1 Bomb number one detonated at the headquarters of PT-Family just after 2am TCT on the 12th of March. This bomb took 607,652 of PT's hard-earned chaining respect ...

Are You Prepared For Paddy's Day?

sugarvalves [1963573] — 48 hour double nerve event begins at 12:00 TCT on the 16th. 20,000+ bottles of Green Stout to be given away via city map. Forum parcel competition to run for the duration of the 17th. For the rest of the world, St Patrick's Day involves drinking heavily, getting into fights, and claiming Irish heritage because your great-great-grandfather once had a penpal from Dundalk. For the people of Torn, the St Patrick's Day festivities are very much the same, but with the welcome addition of free green booze and the odd mayoral kidnapping. Pictured: Your pee after St Patrick's Day, and your pee before. Neither's great tbh. Just like the island of Ireland itself, the St Patrick's Day event consists of two equally delightful parts, each of which will get you stinking drunk in no time at all. For starters, tens of thousands of bottles of Green Stout will be given away via the City Map from 12:00 noon on the 16th through to the same time on the 18th. As...

Dear Aunty Torn

sugarvalves [1963573] — Read Aunty Torn's advice on how to deal with a bad boss, why revenge is a dish best served smartly, and what you can do when you're feeling left out of your faction's social circle. Hello dearies. Aunty's been busy getting ready for St Patrick's Day by stocking up on five nerve booze - I am partial to a tipple of Green Stout - but I've still had time to go through your letters and dwell on your concerns. This month, we have a non-native speaker who's feeling left out, an employee with a b**tard boss, and a vengeful faction member among others! So let's find out why they're all finding life so difficult, and how Aunty suggests we can make things better. Dear Aunty Torn, I'm new to the game and I'm in a faction that wars a lot. I'm trying to progress the fastest I can, but I still feel completely worthless during the wars since I'm not strong enough or experienced enough to attack people. Is there anything I c...

What To Do With Five Dirty Bombs

TiredSaladlego [2650699] — Read on to find out how a 400 day-old player acquired five dirty bombs, what he plans to do with them, and when you should book a flight out of Torn City to escape the blast. Last month I, TiredSaladlego, owner of one (1) Dirty Bomb, ran a poll asking which faction deserved to feel the warm glow of my radioactive attention. Monarch currently has the most votes at 394, with Chain Reaction in second, and Subversive Alliance in third. But as you all know by now, I never did detonate that bomb, despite receiving numerous offers of several billion dollars to tempt me. My reasons for failing to fulfill my promise were outlined in the V-Day roundup article , but to put it simply, it wasn't the right time. I was quoted as saying that I didn't want my bomb drop to be boring like Ovoxo's, and that remains how I feel about the matter. Or at least, it was. 72 Hours Til Sunshine At 01:58 am TCT on Thursday, March 10th, I posted a thread in GD that reveale...

Market Report February

sugarvalves [1963573] — Find out when booze prices will peak ahead of St Patrick's Day, why White Easter Eggs are a quarter of their usual March value, and why you should be buying up points now in this month's Market Report Spring is a busy old time for event days, with March hosting two of them and April and May containing one competition and an event day each. Let's find out how the item market has reacted to these forthcoming events and how you should spend your money over the next month as we delve into February's Item Market report. ST PATRICK'S DAY The effects of alcohol will be doubled from the 16th to the 18th, during which time we'll also see 15-20,000 bottles of Green Stout spawn on the City Map. Green Stout typically endures the most dramatic swing out of all Alcohol thanks to St Patrick's, with its price hitting $1.5-1.6m prior to the event, before falling below $1m just after.
