Market Report March

ORAN [1778676] — When will Donator Packs see another price change? Which premium alcohol item is now cheaper than ever? And why should you consider buying up dog s**t and weed on Monday? March has proven to be a volatile month for traders of both items and points. Despite a hefty wartime demand for various commodities and currencies, the markets are in total depression, with prices going down day by day. But is there an end in sight? And which forthcoming events might provide us with a solution? Here to tell us more is ORAN , a long-time trader who is the author of March's Market Report. WHAT'S THE POINT? The big news of late has been the huge decline in the price of points, a topic which WoollyMammoth covered thoroughly in his excellent recent article . Points have been declining steadily in value since early February, and in our previous market report , they were valued at around $51,500 per point. On March 18th they fell to a sub $50k value and stayed there, with their...

Crossword 29

ArttiIsGod [1954421] — How many crosswords can Chris cross if Chris could cross crosswords? Hello and welcome to the Torn City Times Crossword number 29. This crossword is so named because it came straight after a crossword called 28. Unlike Windows, we like to order our creations numerically, because we are smaht. The answer to the previous crossword was: "oh, we need an answer!" I guess we do! The first person to respond correctly was -Grey- , who wins three Donator Packs for their troubles. The lucky chosen ones to receive one Donator Pack were TooLateToHide , dzbum and YouGoBoom .  Finally, the fully solved crossword below was created by our local doctor and pharmacist CreatorX , who has beautiful handwriting, as I'm sure you'll agree: Now that we've satiated your curiosity regarding last week's effort, here is this week's crossword. If you don't know the answers to some then you can try the following things to help: 1.) Google it 2.) Search t...

Weekly Patch Notes 26/03/19

Stewie [1494547] — Let's have a look through the latest Patch List as posted by Chedburn to see what changes and fixes have been made this week, and what they mean for you. Please note, the updates and bugs documented in this article are worked on by a team of developers. Where a single developer is individually mentioned, it simply reflects who confirmed the report as fixed or complete, and not that they were solely responsible. Updates, Changes, and Additions - Added system to take ownership of items loaned from old / destroyed factions upon return attempt . Mansur reported here  that they had an item stuck in their inventory which had been loaned from an old faction. Chedburn confirmed the faction it was loaned from has since been deleted, and that a new system has been added which will allow the user to attempt to return it, resulting in them taking ownership instead. - Fixed auto updating the points building option status after using it . Jefayette reported here that when...

The Price of Points

MrNewOrleans [2103158] — Points prices have dropped to their lowest monthly average in seven years. But why is this happening? And what can be done to help? The price of points is falling. Of this there can be no doubt. They have been ever since 2015, but in recent months the deflation of the points market has been more pronounced than usual. And this drop affects everyone. The travelers who bring back flowers and plushies aren't making as much as they used to. Those who buy points exclusively to exchange for refills are winning out. But what are the long-term effects of a continuous fall in points prices? And why exactly is this drop happening now? In the coming weeks we've been promised an interview with Torn's economist which will hopefully illuminate us on the various factors which affect point prices. But for now, we're going to conduct our own in-depth look at the situation to see if we can't figure out the issue ourselves. First, let's look at the rece...

JFA Enjoy A Dirty Weekend

Bainz [2101476] — TUN-allied faction hit by dirty bomb. Franky of IBB claims responsibility. Attack due territorial aggression. Nuclear response imminent. 2nd IBB bomb readied. Nothing spices things up like a Dirty Bomb to roll in the weekend. This is precisely what happened just after 10pm last Friday night, when Franky of Itsi Bitsi Bikini detonated a dirty bomb within the heart of JFA in an attempt to change the course of their ongoing territorial conflict. Pictured: IBB's not so subtle message to JFA To recap, Itsi Bitsi Bikini (IBB) is currently defending AVE and LIE from JFA and JFA 2.0 , having previously lost GJE and JIE to the same two factions over the weekend when JFA attacked without warning. Shortly after the territory wars started, the message rang out that a DB had been planted, and this was accompanied by a warning post from Franky . While Champion was quick to start a karma-farming thread for speculation, the only interesting piece of information posted was a...

What Does It Take To Be A Helper?

Franky [1529693] — Find out what it takes to be a member of Torn's staff team as we interview our city's six newest helpers. Last month our Community Manager Bogie announced that six new faces would join the Torn City staff team as helpers; PrincessJulie, Kayla, Stewie, Rhino, Apnea and MarlonBrando. Just kidding. The last one is Ampheromine. Jesus, can you imagine? Anyway, I was recently afforded the opportunity of doing an exclusive interview with these new staff members, so if you'd like to know the skills and commitment required to be a helper, then read on! The first thing I did was to grill my subjects on their motivations for becoming a staffer. Some citizens are understandably suspicious as to why anyone would want to help other people, but that's because some of Torn's citizens are cold, heartless bastards. Thankfully, our staff's motivations are pure, with most citing the ability to give back to the community and help new players as the reasons they...

Weekly Patch Notes 19/03/19

Proxima [1879587] — Let's have a look through the latest Patch list as posted by Chedburn to see what changes and fixes have been made this week, and what they mean for you. Please note, the updates and bugs documented in this article are worked on by a team of developers. Where a single developer is individually mentioned, it simply reflects who confirmed the report as fixed or complete, and not that they were solely responsible. Updates, Changes and Additions - Added auto-leave for all finished fights after 30 seconds (even after closing page) After a false start a couple of weeks ago which produced unexpected bugs, a change has now been implemented which means  a defeated opponent will now be left on the street by default if a choice hasn't been made after 30 seconds.  - Added amount shortcuts for points input fields in the faction page BeerDrinker notices in this report that input shortcuts (such as 'k' for thousand) do not work for the deposition of points to y...

Phase Two Begins

sugarvalves [1963573] — Leaked memo from within TUN indicates brutal attrition strategy was planned in the likely event of them losing the island. Long, drawn-out war now predicted. The announcement of the death of Torn United Nations was premature, it seems, as after being booted from the city centre, Z_junior's troops are now reportedly beginning the second phase of their war plan. According to a leaked memo written by Milk and Cookies' Einstein_, TUN never planned to keep the island's territories, and have been banking on the Insurgency running out of steam once the main part of the war seemed over. The suggestion that TUN meant to lose the island may seem amusing at first - it's like someone turning up to a party claiming they fully shat themselves as a joke, or Dude's parents pretending he was supposed to turn out like that - but the idea that Junia's men could take advantage of Insurgency complacency is a serious one. And with a new attack strategy in p...
