How To Avoid Being A Mug

sugarvalves [1963573] — Find out how to protect yourself against our city's newly empowered muggers, and how to profit from the new protection system too. Torn's much-discussed changes to the mugging system went live at 2pm TCT on Tuesday. As detailed in our previous newspaper report on the subject , muggers will now take anywhere between 5 and 10% from their victims' on-hand cash, regardless of how much they have on them at the time. Mug protection has also been altered, with this benefit being wiped as soon as you interact with the protected cash, and the protection itself deteriorating at a quicker rate than before. The full details of the aforementioned changes can be found by reading the linked article in the paragraph above. But in this piece, we're going to look at the effects of this new mugging system on certain types of players, while also investigating how you can protect yourself, and make a little money on the side. First up, how to avoid being a victim....

Trick Or Treating Returns to Torn

sugarvalves [1963573] — 48-hour event begins Wednesday at noon. Treats now gained by attacking any player, including non-participants. Happiness reductions removed due to prospect of flooding caused by tearful citizens. Torn's infamous Trick or Treat event is set to return this week, albeit with a few significant changes that should make things rather interesting. Trick or Treat is a 48-hour event which takes place from noon on Wednesday 30th of October through to noon on Friday the 1st of November. The aim of this game is to collect as many treats as possible, as these treats can later be exchanged for a random selection of items such as cans, candy and booze. If you wish to take part in this event, you must purchase a Halloween Basket from Sally's Sweet Shop when the event starts on Wednesday at 12:00 TCT. These baskets will sell out quickly, but don't worry if you miss out at first, as they will replenish every fifteen minutes. Now, some people may be understandably ...

The Evolution of Mugging

Bainz [2101476] — Read our report into how the recent changes to the mug protection system will affect both muggers and their victims. After four polls and over a month of debate, Chedburn has finally come to an agreement with the community on how Torn's mugging system should be updated. His announcement on Tuesday indicated that the new mugging mechanics consisted of a simplified system whereby between 5% and 10% of the victim's wallet will be stolen when mugged. This value is no longer affected by how much money the victim has on-hand, but it can be increased by up to 50% with use of the Masterful Looting merit upgrade - a free merit reset will be available as compensation. Furthermore, the mug protection system will also be changed, as it will now only protect the money in your wallet which has not been interacted with. After being mugged, your leftover cash will be protected to an extent, but said protection will degrade at a linear rate over twelve hours. These changes...

War erupts over Proxy Rackets

ORAN [1778676] — Natural Selection, Subversive Alliance, 39th Street and We Are Rising involved in skirmish over racket territories held by proxy factions. Conflict may escalate over coming days. Is Torn on the brink of yet another huge faction conflict? It appears so, with a dispute over territorial rackets potentially set to escalate into a city-wide war involving several major factions. Last week the Torn City Times was made aware of a campaign by Subversive Alliance to hoover up a number of high-value rackets using their proxy factions. On the 14th of October, an anonymous rival faction member told us that Brotherhood of War , The Igloo , Impulse , Dead Body Crew and Mental Disorder were all funnelling the proceeds of their rackets to SA, and it was also rumoured that One Punch were giving half of their racket earnings to Midknight's troops in return for protection too. Our anonymous source is not impressed. "I think it's pretty greedy of them to be taking as ma...

Sinners Exposed as Torn Confesses

sugarvalves [1963573] — Citizens admit to scamming their faction, lying to a hot girl, deceiving the members of Fun & Games and tricking our very own community manager! The people of Torn have much to confess, it seems, judging by the volume of correspondence you've sent in for the attention of Pastor Williams. Last week the head of the Torn Church invited our city's most errant sinners to absolve themselves of their guilt through the act of confession by detailing their misdeeds in a message to the Torn City Times. Over 200 individual confessions have been made so far, with more flooding in each and every day. The Torn City Times will publish a selection of the most salacious confessions every month - we have a rather large backlog - and their authors will be rewarded with both absolution and a Donator Pack. Please continue to send in your confessions to Sugarvalves at your earliest convenience, as we will publish the best ones first. Here are the entries which Pastor ...

Faction Focus: BoOtcaMp

howyadoin [2031433] — In this edition of Faction Focus, we interview the leader of one of Torn's up and coming sides to find out how to start a faction from scratch and keep out of trouble during your earliest days. In this week’s Faction Focus we're going to hear from one of Torn's newer factions, BoOtcaMp , which celebrated its first birthday in June. Although BoOtcaMp is still relatively green, it has the distinction of rising into the ranks of the top 500 Hall of Fame factions within its first year. They currently sit at 362nd in the list with 230,771 respect as of October 16th, 2019. In traditional Torn style, the faction marked its first birthday with a chain and a victorious war. Indeed, BoOtcaMp’s founder Foxy73 says their freshman year contained many great accomplishments, with highlights including ranking in the top half of the Hall of Fame for respect and a general sense of the faction coming together to achieve their goals. “ The biggest moment must be when ...
